Choosing Your Wooden Flooring
If you have finally made the decision to include wooden flooring in your home, then you are now faced with some decisions about the type and style of the flooring you will install. Wooden floors add a classic beauty to your home that is both durable and low maintenance. When it is time to make some decisions on your wooden flooring, you can find a type that will coordinate with your style and taste.
The most important step when you are choosing your flooring is to set your budget. Wood floors come in a great range of prices and it is in your best interest to set a limit to the amount that you will spend on your floors.
Wooden flooring looks great in a family room, dining room and bedrooms, but you should not put this type of flooring in a bathroom or kitchen. A bathroom floor must be able to hold up well with moisture. Wooden flooring is not the best choice. Kitchens can get away with wood floors, but again there is more moisture and chance of spills in a kitchen. Spills will not destroy a wood floor, but they must be cleaned up promptly. If you do decide to put wooden flooring in a kitchen, stay away from very dark woods or light woods. A medium colour works best in this room.
Choose lighter colours for the rooms in your house that are not prone to dirt or are not high traffic areas of the home. The lighter colours will stay looking great in these areas of the home. In areas of the home that see more traffic, choose wooden flooring with a tough finish. This allows you to go longer before the floors need to be refinished.
The next decision you will have to make is the installation. Wood floors can be a do it yourself project, but you should take the time to learn as much as you can about wooden flooring before you attempt it on your own. Many of the products on the market today are designed with diy’ers in mind.
A professional installer can also be an option if you have the money in the budget for this type of installation. You will be assured that your wooden flooring will look great without too much trouble when you hire someone to install the floors for you.
