Double Glazing Styles

Double glazing has become very popular over the years and it is usually only older homes now that do not have this form of glazing. It used to be the case that single paned windows were installed in all homes but when the issue of global warming came up a way to reduce the amount of energy we use in our homes was required. Double glazing is much more effective at keeping the heat inside our homes and the cold air outside. The way it works is by placing two panes of glass in one window frame with a space between them filled with a gas that provides insulation from air and sound. Not only will double glazed windows help to keep the home warmer, they will also help to reduce noise levels from outside which is another great reason for choosing them.

You may have decided that it is time to update the windows in your home with double glazing and this is a wise move. Your home will be more attractive, will increase in value and it will also be much more secure. All this on top of the fact that you will save money on energy bills and you will also benefit from a reduction in external noises.

You will need to choose the style of double glazing that you want for your home and you might be surprised to find that there is plenty of choice these days. There are a number of different styles and patterns but the main types are listed below:

  • Casement Windows: There are many different styles and shapes that you can choose when it comes to double glazing. Casement windows used to be the most popular type of window and will have either one or two hinges along the side of the window frame. You may have one casement window in one frame or two and they are often made out of leaded glass.

  • Sash Windows: Older homes used to have sash windows and this style has become very popular again recently. Many people are choosing to have new windows put in their homes in the older sash style. The growing popularity of these windows means that double glazing companies are now offering this style too.

  • Bay Windows: Bay windows are very popular and are usually found at the front of the home because of the way they protrude out from the rest of the house. However they are more commonly being used at the rear of homes too for living rooms and dining rooms. Bay windows are great at increasing the amount of light that comes into the home and they can give the illusion of more space. They are probably one of the more popular choices when it comes to double glazing.
